Spring Break

This week is UGA's Spring Break, and to celebrate Hubry is writing like crazy in order to finish his dissertation. I am so proud of him and the past 5 years of work he's put into this document. As a friend said the other day, some of us write a 300 page book in 5 years, others of us birth 3 children. (She is also the mother of 3). Both equally important and difficult jobs :) But I digress.

We decided to take one day of Spring Break and make it a crazy, fun family adventure. That day was yesterday, and it made the most sense because the kids had dentist appointments yesterday morning, and their dentist is an hour away - in the direction of Atlanta. We didn't choose this dentist. In fact, it was the only place who took our insurance at the time. But let me just say that they totally rock! The kids did such an awesome job, and really, who wouldn't do an awesome job at the dentist when the entire staff kept coming in and out of the room, cheering them on, giving tokens for prizes, etc., etc. We couldn't be more happy with their office, and we were so proud of the kids for being so brave for x-rays, brushing, flossing, and the whole 9 yards!

After the dentist we had another 40 minutes in the car to get to IKEA, which was perfect because it gave the rain a little bit of extra time to subside. At IKEA we split up so that I could attack our list without the help of the older two, and they could run around and play with Hubry while they waited for me. Then we took advantage of cheap lunch with toys nearby, and were back in the car again and headed out to our final destination... the Atlanta Zoo.

The Athens/ Clarke County library system partners with the Atlanta Zoo to provide free family passes once a year to any patron who watches a short (25 minute) DVD about the zoo. You have to use your free pass within the week, and you can't get another one until the next year, but isn't that such an amazing deal?? Just to shed some light on the amazingness of it, it would have cost us about $75 to get in the zoo, and instead it was totally free. To celebrate, we spent $7 and rode the train :)

It was truly a perfect day, the kids had such a fun time, and so did Hubry and I. We left the zoo and headed down the road to a local pizza joint to wait out the rush hour traffic before heading home. The kids all fell asleep in the car to varying degrees at different times, and Hubry and I were so thankful for such a glorious day. Trust me, traveling with small children can be hit or miss, and it makes it that much sweeter to have such a lovely day.
